Network Setup

Before you can use your Raspberry Pi based CityAD Pro player you must connect the player to your network. This can be done by wired or wifi network connection.

Wired Connection

  • To connect your player to a wired connection, just plug one end of an ethernet cable to the ethernet connector of the player and, of course, the other cable end to your network switch/router.
  • If your DHCP server/router has been properly configured, the player will get an IP address and properly connect to your network.
  • The player main screen will show that the connection to the server is active, so you can proceed to the Player Setup section to add the new player to your managed players list.

Please note that by default the player is configured to work in hotspot mode acting like an access point using it’s internal wifi adapter, so after properly configuring the network connection it is highly recommended to disable such feature as it could be a network security problem. To disable the hotspot mode, please follow the Disable Hotspot instructions

Wifi Connection

Connecting your player to your wifi access point can be done through the web interface with another wifi device or directly by connecting a usb mouse and keyboard to the player to change it’s configuration. Both methods follow the same procedure.

Configure using a mouse and keyboard

  • Connect a usb mouse and keyboard to anyone of the player’s usb ports.
  • If the player is showing the main screen, just click on the green Configure Wifi button. If the player is not showing the main screen, press Ctrl + W in your keyboard and when the main screen shows then click on the green Configure Wifi button.
  • The player will show the wifi configuration screen. Please continue to the Configure Wifi Connection section.

Configure using the web interface

The Raspberry Pi based CityAD Pro players are configured by default to work in hotspot mode acting like an access point using it’s internal wifi adapter. To configure the player’s wifi connection you will need any device with a wifi interface and a web browser. Any desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone can be used for such purpose.

  • The player’s hotspot mode generates by default a wifi network. To connect to it using your favourite device just search for a wifi network named raspi-webgui and connect to it using the ChangeMe passphrase.
  • When your device has properly connected to the raspi-webgui wifi network, open your favourite web browser and browse to the 192.168.50.1 IP address.
  • Your browser will show the player’s wifi configuration web interface. Please continue to the Configure Wifi Connection section.

Configure Wifi Connection

  • After reaching the wifi configuration web/screen, you’ll see that the player is not connected to any wifi network.
  • Using the left side panel, go to Configure Wifi client option. This screen will show the available wifi networks that the player is detecting.
  • Search for your favourite wifi network, introduce the wifi network’s passphrase and click on the blue Add button.
  • The screen will show that the player has properly connected to your favourite wifi network.
  • Now your player is already connected to your favourite networt. If you have been configuring the wifi connection using a mouse and keyboard just click on the green Back button located at the top of the player’s screen to return to the player’s main screen.

Disable Hotspot

After properly connecting your new player to your wired or wifi network, you should disable the player’s hotspot mode as it could be a network security problem.

  • If you are configuring your CityAD Pro player using a usb mouse and keyboard connected to the player, please take a look at Configure using a mouse and keyboard section to know how to access the wifi configuration screen.
  • If you are configuring your CityAD Pro player using the web interface, please take a look at Configure using the web interface section to know how to access the wifi configuration screen.
  • Access again to the wifi configuration web/screen using your favourite browser or connecting a usb mouse and keyboard to the player.
  • Using the left side panel, go to the Configure hotspot option.
  • Under the Advanced tab, disable the WiFi client AP mode switch, press Save settings button and finally press Stop hotspot button.
  • After following this procedure the hotspot mode will stop working and the raspi-webgui wifi network will disappear.
  • If you haven’t added your new player to your managed players list, please proceed to the Player Setup section.
